On May 9th, Mr. Moses Kau, the director of intergovernmental relations of Free State, South Africa visited our university and met with South African students. Our president, Prof. Liu Defu, and staff from our School of International Education attended the meeting.
Mr. Moses Kau visited the School of Bio-engineering and Food Science, and went on field trips to our university's laboratories and scientific research bases to give himself deep insights with the situation of research and personnel cultivation in the relevant fields, such as the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center of Industrial Fermentation, the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center of Efficient Utilization of Solar Energy, the Undertaking Practice Base of the School of Economics and Management, etc.
During the following meeting, Prof. Liu Defu introduced Mr. Moses Kau our university's development history, school-running situation education for overseas students, etc., hoping to further strengthen the cooperation and exchanges with Free State, South Africa in the fields of personnel cultivation, technology research. Mr. Moses Kau expressed his deep impression about our university's beautiful campus environment and strong power of education and scientific research. He was willing to being the bridge between HBUT and Free State, South Africa and selecting more excellent students supported by Free State, South Africa's scholarship to study in our university. And two parties had in-depth discussion and reached an agreement in the selecting system of overseas students, leader exchanges, foreign branch campus, etc.
In March, 2016, 37 overseas students from Free State, South Africa registered in our university for the first time, starting their 4-year undergraduate studying. Their living and studying expenses in China were fully funded by the government of Free State, South Africa. Mr. Moses Kau's visit this time will be viewed as starting a new chapter for the cooperation between South Africa and our university, thus breaking new ground for our international education.
